On the shortest day of the year (December the 21st) the city is filled with light and its residents are roused from their winter slumber as lanterns are paraded through the streets. Accompanied by loud drumming and whistles being blown the Burning The Clocks event awakens the darkest of winter nights.

I was surprised when I first heard about it as I have covered many photo assignments in Brighton over the years but for some reason never heard of the track. Researching it further and discovering its history I soon decided that it would make a great photo project. And so one lovely Autumn's day in October I visited the track whilst a charity cycling event called 'Pedal In Preston Park' was being held.
